At the end of the Second World War, on May 6, 1945 in the morning the American Army arrived to Pilsen under the command of General George S. Patton and after long years liberated the town from the Nazi rule. Every year, during the May celebrations of the anniversary of liberation and end of the Second World War in Europe, processions of historic and current army vehicles and technical equipment pass through Pilsen, seen can be the reconstruction of the American military camp of 1945, organized are exhibitions of historic American civil vehicles, auctions of military and a number of accompanying events.

Within the framework of the May celebrations in 2005 opened ceremonially was also the Memorial Pilsen, the only museum exposition in the Czech Republic devoted to the American Army. The museum is not only a permanent remembrance of the liberators but, at the same time, it serves as a clear proof of that event. Unique exhibits document the armament and fitting of the American Army and the common life of the soldiers.
