The typical symbol of Pilsen scenery is created by a characteristic silhouette of the ruined castle Radyně, rising south of Pilsen on the 569 metres high wooded hill with interesting flintly slate rocks. The castle called Karlskrone (Karlova Koruna – Charles Crown) was founded in the 14th century by Charles IVth, but the name did not become popular and the castle was further called in Czech according to the hill on which it towers in such an imposing manner. Radyně with which several myths and legends are connected is one of the most imposing ruins of the area of Pilsen and a favourite place of tourist and hikers. One of the towers is used as observation tower, it offers an excellent outlook.
